Rimmel Provocalips Review + Lip swatches!

December 02, 2014

I feel like everyone and their mums are talking about the newly released Rimmel Provocalips 16hr Kiss Proof Lip Colour*. Some reviews I have read are praising these as the next best things whereas others are saying these are not all they're cracked up to be. I was more than happy to give these newbies a little bit of a trial and see how I rate them!

In the range there are eight shades. These shades range from nude shades all the way to reds and darker plums.

700 Skinny Dipping: In the tube this looks like a lovely nude beige shade, but when you pull the doe foot wand out it looks like melted milk chocolate. I can definitely see some very subtle shimmer, however on the lips (as you can see above) the finish looks quite metallic and old fashioned. I'm not a big fan of this colour. I don't think it flatters my skin tone and I really don't like frost finishes! Application is a bit streaky.

110 Dare to Pink: In the tube this looks like a warmed baby pink shade. but again the shades isn't the same as what the product actually is... It is a warmer and darker than what the tube suggests. There is some shimmer in this one too if you look closely, but this one does not show as frosty on the lips (thank goodness!). This one reminds me of a slightly darker Creme Cup by MAC. This one is also quite streaky I find and again doesn't seem to flatter my skin tone that well. Sigh.

730 Make Your Move: This one looks like a darker brown shade with a hint of rose to it. This one seems to have a little pink shimmer, but again doesn't transfer to the lips. This one is much better in terms of streakiness and the way it looks on the lips. Again, not keen on the colour unfortunately. If I was slightly darker this would be a very Velvet Teddy kinda lip product.

200 I'll Call You: What is with these products not matching the outside! So frustrating. This one, in the packaging, looks like a medium warm pink. Very typical kind of colour. When applied this pulls more more cool to the point of looking like a mauve purple pink. I do like this colour on my skin though. I feel these colours are all suited towards winter months rather than summer.  This one is also quite smooth and doesn't have too much streakiness.

310 Little Minx: This one looks like a bright dark fuschia shade. I also like this one. It is a little streaky as you can see on my top lip, but otherwise I think this is quite a universally flattering shade. This one is definitely a full cream finish as there are zero shimmer I can see with my naked eye. probably why I like this one...

500 Kiss Me You Fool: Firstly, let my apologise for the next couple swatches. By now my lips were hurting and I just wanted to get these dang lip swatches done hahah. I really like this shade. It is quite a bright neutral red shade. It may slightly lean towards the cooler side but it is hard to tell. This one is extremely pigmented and I didn't find it to be streaky at all! Wooooo!

550 Play With Fire: In the tube this looks like a super red shade. I don't see any plum tones to it and it feels very reminiscent to Limecrimes Wicked velvetine! However... (there is always a however with these...) this one turns out to be a rusty browny red shade with slight plum undertones. I don't really like the colour and I think it looks a bit dated. This picture is looking a loooot brighted than it actually is. I didn't find this one to be too streaky and I couldn't see any shimmer to it.

230 Kiss Fatal: This is the one I wanted so badly to love, because we all know I love myself a purple lip. But as you can see in the picture is was streaky and patchy and I found it very hard to get a smooth application. There are also shimmer in this one turning is slightly frosty on the lips. In the tube it looks like a dark purple plum shade, but when applied it is much sheerer than the rest and has more mauve tones to it. Quite sad about this one... :(

Skinny Dipping, Dare to Pink, Make Your Move, I'll Call You, Little Minx, Kiss Me You Fool, Play With Fire, Kiss Fatal

One massive positive (or negative depending on what time of the day it is) is that these stay on literally forever! I wore Dare to Pink for about 11 hours at work, no reapplication, and it lasted the whole time! I actually found it super difficult to remove and had to scrub at my lips a bit. I'm a little worried how hard the darker shades are going to be to remove!

Something that needs to be mentioned is that when these are applied they are quite tacky and the other side of the lip product is a clear gloss. This gloss is meant to seal it all in and also help remove the uncomfortableness of the gloss. I only applied the gloss at the beginning of the day and within a couple hours it had worn off and my lips were soooo sticky for the rest of the day.

Overall, I'm not crazy impressed with this new offering by Rimmel. I am excited to try the red shades for all day and see how they hold up though!

Have you tried the new Rimmel Provocalips yet? What did you think? Am I applying these wrong?

  3. It's too bad these are sticky/tacky since that is my pet peeve with lip glosses. The colour range looks gorgeous but I may have to pass on these due to the sticky factor. Loved your swatches though! Great job girl. xx

  7. It sounds a little scary when a lip product stays on and won't come off even if you try and remove it :s but surprisingly I quite like the idea! I love Skinny Dipping and Dare to Pink ♥ both are such gorgeous shades, oh and Make Your Move is another stunning shade! (I've just decided I need this shade in my life cause of your beautiful lip swatch :p :p). Lovely review xo and Love your blog!
